About

What you’ll find here:

Many attempts at humor and sentence fragments.  The attempts at sentence fragments are usually successful.

What you won’t find here:

Things that I’ve written elsewhere.

Useful information (but you might find pointers to some in An Open Letter to Anyone Who Was Directed Here by a Search Engine).

Anything about my family, friends, or job, because I like my family, friends, and job and would like to keep them.

Posts about my cats.  In theory.  In practice, cats seem to find their way into some of my posts here. They even found their way into that one thing of mine that got posted on McSweeney’s.

About scheduling:

You’d never guess this from reading my posts, but I actually value quality more than keeping a schedule.  I seem to range from posting a couple times a week to posting a couple times a month.

About the name:

I originally called this blog “Laura’s Bad Ideas”, because I didn’t want to set the bar too high.  Eventually, I thought I noticed a theme emerging, and decided that “Unlikely Explanations” was more descriptive.  I’m still @laurasbadideas on Twitter, though, partly because “unlikelyexplanations” is too long to be a valid Twitter user name.

About the Reese’s Ballerinas

The header image and various icons around the site are variations on a picture I made for the post Better Living Through Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. It’s based on this painting by Edgar Degas, and it’s the first thing I ever did in Photoshop that I thought looked reasonably good.

  1. I have just called here via Aquatom’s link to
your Space, and so I will return later to view
some of your postings and maybe even add
a few of my thoughts :)

Have a wonderful rest of weekend my friend…

  2. This is one of the best, if not the best, About page I’ve read before. Sentence fragments. My writing would be dead without them. In a coffin stinking like expensive cheese type of dead.
